I believe we are doing our children an extreme disservice by diagnosing them with bipolar at such an early age. Three year olds have tantrums. Maybe it's the parents who needed a lesson in what to do when their child has a tantrum. Children develop at different rates. Yes, this child may have been a "difficult" child but perhaps she just had a lot of energy and it needed to be channelled somewhere. I am 46 now. As a child my mother put me in an activity almost every day after school. Yes, I had a lot of energy. She also told me on many occasions I could go from crying to laughing in about 5 seconds. Maybe I had bipolar tendancies way back then. But the illness only manifested itself when there was extreme stress in my life. As an adult I just kept myself very busy and I still love to be busy. I have learned how to control my emotions. If we start subjecting our children to medication for every little problem they will not learn how to deal with difficult situations because we are numbing their senses. Too many people want the easy way out............whether it is medicating a child or themselves. The healthcare system is set up to keep people sick. There is no money to be made when people are heatlhy. Beware of any doctor who wants to diagnose your child too early.

Ooops! That's right, I write for Wiley (Publishing). Must've been one of my random neurons firing. Thanks for pointing out the error. Correction made.
